A different St Valentine’s Day for a group of Régent students: on Sunday 14th February some had the chance to go Heliskiing. And it was love at first sight. The trip was offered to top level skiers who had demonstrated that they had the necessary skills and motivation to be able to participate in an exciting adventure. All had completed a weekend’s training in ski touring as well as a safety session using the avalanche transceivers and equipment. The planned descent was actually quite complicated with 3 separate skins uphill, so it was not just a trip for the average downhill skier. After flying over the school, the students were dropped at the top of the Wildhorn, a nearby 3000m peak. The mountain also overlooks the ski resort of Crans-Montana, giving incredible views across the valley. So a challenging but rewarding experience and students are already asking for another date.
